The Maldives Swimming and Life Saving Skills Training School (MSLSTS) wishes to formally place on record the established history of Junior Lifeguard and Junior Lifesaving education in the Maldives.
Junior Lifeguard education is not a newly introduced concept in the Maldives. It forms part of the established training history and programme development of MSLSTS, which has been developing and delivering junior lifesaving education to young participants for several years.
MSLSTS records document Junior Lifeguard development and recognition dating back to at least 2022, followed by continued Junior Lifeguard and Junior Lifesaving training and practical activities in subsequent years. These programmes have introduced young participants to water safety, aquatic-risk awareness, rescue principles, first-aid awareness, emergency response, teamwork and lifesaving leadership.
The development of Junior Lifeguard education is therefore part of MSLSTS’s own established programme history and professional contribution to water-safety education in the Maldives.
This work continues in 2026 through MSLSTS Junior Lifeguard – Season IV, commencing on 23 August 2026, demonstrating the School’s continued and progressive commitment to youth lifesaving education.
MSLSTS considers it important that the history, development and ownership of its training programmes are accurately documented and recognised. The School’s Junior Lifeguard programme represents an ongoing educational pathway developed through its work in swimming, lifesaving, water rescue and emergency-care training.
MSLSTS welcomes all genuine efforts to strengthen youth water-safety education. However, the historical record should remain clear: Junior Lifeguard education and training have already been conducted in the Maldives, and this programme forms an established part of MSLSTS’s training history.
The School remains committed to further developing Junior Lifeguard education and preparing the next generation with the knowledge, skills, discipline and leadership required to contribute to safer aquatic environments across the Maldives.
